REV. BRO.STANISLAUS 6th MEMORIAL LECTURE -2024

Rev. Bro. Stanislaus 6th Memorial Lecture was conducted on 20 September 2024. The Chief Guest for this event was Prof. Syeda Sameen Fatima. She bestowed knowledge upon the students of class 9 on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence.’ In the beginning, she engaged all the students with her exciting riddles. She continued by teaching all about AI and how to protect our personal information. Later, she explained the success story of Neural Network that was proposed in 1940. After which the Graphics Processing Unit was built in 2012. During this period, AI overcame humans in every field. Our chief guest also mentioned about the IBM supercomputer, Deep Blue that defeated the world chess champion Garry Kasparov. The chief guest also referred to the automated cars that made driving easier. 

She later on said that some platforms like ChatGPT offer many benefits. However, there are several disadvantages and limitations including lack of real time knowledge and losing the ability to think. She highlighted the Turing Test concept introduced by Alan Turing.

Furthermore, she pointed out several concerns which have become increasingly integrated into societies such as job displacement, bias and discrimination and ethical dilemmas. She concluded by saying that AI not only replaces old jobs but also creates new opportunities.

This seminar was very informative and productive. It has helped students to utilize the technology in a better manner. While AI has endless possibilities it also has significant concerns which we should not let it overshadow our creativity and critical thinking.
